Fear and Heart

How is your heart? Does it change with the seasons or are you solid? I feel like in general I am solid in my beliefs but my heart struggles, like the tide. The rushing in like waves of learning and feeling like I can do all things who Christ strengthens me, to the ebb of heart hurt and feeling stuck. Maybe as women we “feel” with our hearts. But our feelings are not always truth so how do we discern the difference? With truth. The base of all truth is the word of God.

There is no coincidence that there are 365 verses that say “do not be afraid” because everyday we are faced with something that can cause us to be afraid. Yet fear is another feeling, one that can be crushed with truth. Through my whole life I have been afraid, struggled with my heart hurts, but the verse I always come back to is Joshua 1:9 “This is my command – be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” If He commands that you do not be afraid then how does that translate to your heart? The commands of God aren’t just suggestions or brief helpful tips, He commands us to love, to not fear, to follow His word. Now some may bristle at the idea of being commanded to do anything. Our hearts don’t want to just do what is right, to follow any instructions, to go against what we “feel” and lead our hearts in the way of truth. But the bristle is usually a sign of where we need to surrender to Him and realign our hearts with His word.
